Marie is originally from Minnesota and Tim is from The Netherlands. They both arrived to New York City from their respective small towns 5 years ago with high hopes and big dreams.
Tim had been at International House for ten days; Marie had been there for three. They both knew very few people and decided they should be social to make new friends at their new home. I-House was leading a chocolate tour for the residents, exploring the city's best-known and -loved chocolate hot spots. Somewhere between Crumb and Magnolia Cupcakes, Tim and Marie started walking and talking on the sidewalk. Somewhere after Magnolia, they were only chatting with each other. And when they arrived at Max Brenner, their final stop on the tour, Marie pulled Tim in to make sure she got to sit next to this intriguing European guy. Some chocolate, a shared cocktail, and lots of conversation... and the rest was history.
Tim proposed to Marie in February 2013 in exactly the same place on Union Square where their story began.
It was such a pleasure for me to be a part of their cozy winter wedding in Sunset Terrace at Chelsea Piers, NY.
